The Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) comprising the countries of Cambodia, China PRC (Guangxi & Yunnan), Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam with the support of their development partners is seeking an Executive Director to lead the Mekong Tourism Coordination Office (MTCO) and steer the implementation of the programmes and projects as identified within the Mekong Tourism Strategy.
The Executive Director will lead a small but dedicated team of professionals working at the MTCO which is currently headquartered in Bangkok, Thailand. This person will be responsible for orchestrating the implementation of the marketing and development objectives of the MTCO. The Executive Director will develop partnerships with the public and private sectors in support of the MTCO marketing plan. He/she, along with the MTCO Director of Development, will coordinate the 28-dvelopment projects outlined in the Mekong Tourism Strategy. A key task will be to seek the support of donor organizations and international and regional private sector organizations with a medium term objective of making the programme self funding. The Executive Director will be responsible for the overall day-to-day management of the MTCO including finance, human resource management, etc.
The ideal candidate will possess the experience and initiative to contribute towards the realization of the goals and objectives of tourism development in the GMS. The person will have held a senior position in the private, NGO or NTO sectors in tourism or in a related sector such as marketing, aviation, finance and banking. The person must be able to work based in any of the countries of the sub-region, travel widely, possess leadership qualities, be energetic and innovative and be able to communicate effectively in English. Competency in the languages of the subregion would be also an advantage. Being a citizen of one of the GMS countries is not essential but would be an advantage.
Salary range US$ 4,000 to 5,000 depending on qualifications.
